New Delhi, April 6 - Gaurav Ghei carded a brilliant seven-under-par, 65 to grab the lead on the second day of the inaugural AIS Golf Open at the Delhi Golf Club here Friday.

Ghei teed off from the tenth hole and started the day with a dropped shot on the par-four 13th hole where he three-putted from 25-feet. However, he made no mistakes thereafter, making a birdie on the par-five 14th and another on the 18th hole to make the turn at one-under-par.

Ghei caught fire in the second half, making six birdies in nine holes - he made four back-to-back birdies on the first, second, third and fourth holes, as well as birdies on the sixth and eighth holes to card a 65 and take his 36-hole total to 12-under-par, 132.

'I putted really well and did not take any undue risks today. The course was playing hard and was much quicker in the afternoon. I hit a lot of good iron shots into the greens and started holing my putts which got things going,' he said.

Overnight leader S.S.P. Chowrasia carded a level-par 72 and is in sole second place at nine-under-par. He teed off from the tenth hole started the day with a bogey after he drove his ball into the left rough on the tenth.

He then missed a short putt on 13th to card his second bogey of the day and yet another bogey on the par-four 15th hole where he hit his drive into the left rough and had to chip out, saw him make the turn at one-over-par, 37.

'I just did not hit the ball close enough today and did not putt too well,' said Chowrasia.

Ashok Kumar carded a second consecutive 68 and is a stroke further behind with his total of eight-under-par, 136. Teeing off from the tenth, Kumar made bogeys on the tenth and the 11th hole but birdies on the 16th and 18th holes saw him make the turn at level-par for the day.

Meanwhile, tournament favourite Jyoti Randhawa carded a five-under-par, 67 and was in sole fourth place with his total of five-under-par, 139.

'The game was good today and I missed a few short putts. I am also working on a few changes on my swing and it is a little difficult to concentrate on the swing and maintain my rhythm at the same time, but I am satisfied with my game so far,' he said.

Gaganjeet Bhullar was in fifth place with a total of four-under-par, 140, while Vijay Kumar was a further stoke behind and in sixth place.

Shiv Kapur had a frustrating day on the greens and carded a three-over-par, 75 taking his two-day total to four-over-par, 148.

'I just did not make any birdie putts today. I have made a drastic change in my swing and am working to get back to playing more consistently. I feel I was mentally not as focused as I should have been today and just need to be a little more patient,' said Kapur.
