Paes moves to eighth spot in doubles ranking

New Delhi, April 2 - Indian tennis star Leander Paes has moved four places to the eighth spot in the latest doubles rankings released Monday.

Paes and his Czech partner Martin Damm, who also moved up three places to be ranked seventh, had a memorable start to the season by winning the Rotterdam Open and the Indian Wells Open. Paes' sterling performance in the Association of Tennis Professionals - Masters tournament also helped in his rise.

Paes' former partner Mahesh Bhupathi slipped one place to 22nd spot in the rankings.

In the women's singles ranking, Sania Mirza moved up one place to the 46th position.

Sania, who has been out of action with a knee injury, is still in the 31st spot in the women's doubles ranking.

Swiss Roger Federer is still the top rated player in the men's singles while Belgian Justine Henin-Hardenne remains the world No.1 in the women's section followed by Russian Maria Sharapova.
