Randhawa wins DLF Masters, Kapur finishes second

Gurgaon, May 13 - Jyoti Randhawa carded a two-under-par, 70 taking his total to 15-under-par, 273, to win the DLF Masters at the DLF Golf and Country Club here Sunday.
Randhawa took home the winner's cheque of Rs.10,53,000 while Shiv Kapur finished second with a total of five-under-par, 283 after carding a two-over-par 74 in the final round of the Rs.6.5 million tournament.
Randhawa started the day with a bogey on the first hole after he hit his two-iron off the tee into the left rough, chipped out and hit his lob-wedge to 10 feet and missed the putt for par.
He birdied the third, dropped another shot on the fifth where he left his eight-iron second shot short of the green and missed chip-putt for par. He then picked up birdies on the sixth and ninth holes to make the turn at one-under-par, 35.
Randhawa then birdied the 12th, dropped a shot on the par-three 16th hole after hitting his six-iron over the green and picked up another birdie on the 17th hole to card a two-under-par, 70 and a 10 stroke victory over his nearest rival.
'The pressure made me play well but it was tough out there. The greens were fast today and the pin positions were tight,' said Randhawa.
Kapur started the day perfectly, with birdies on the first and third holes. However, he dropped a shot on the par-four fifth hole, but a birdie on the ninth hole saw him make the turn at two-under-par, 34.
'I actually thought that I could catch him after the sixth hole, but after he birdied the 12th and I bogeyed the 13th I knew he had sealed his victory,' said Kapur who will be competing on the European Tour next week.
'This is like a warm-up week for me for my long stretch of tournaments in Europe and I will take away a lot of positives from this week,' he added.
Veteran professional Vijay Kumar carded a one-under-par, 71 to finish in third place at four-under-par, 284.
'I am content with my round as it has been a difficult scoring week,' said Vijay who played alongside long-time rival Mukesh Kumar as both were tied with the same scores after three rounds.
Mukesh and Gaurav Diwan finished fourth at three-under-par, 285, while S.S.P. Chowrasia and Gaurav Ghei were in sixth place at the completion of 72-holes.
'I finished badly today and dropped shots on the 12th, 13th, 15th, 16th and 17th holes coming in,' said Chowrasia.
Shamim Khan and Ashok Kumar finished the week tied for eighth place at one-over-par, 289. Ashok carded a two-under-par, 70 Sunday.
'I am happy with my performance over the weekend and played well today,' said Ashok.
Singapore's Lam Chih Bing who carded a 76, finished 10th. 'I just putted badly today and did not hole any putts,' he said.
