Patiala, May 1 - Fresh after a training camp in South Africa, a host of top national athletes will be in action in the season opener Indian athletics Grand Prix - meet at the National Institute of Sports -, here starting Wednesday.

The event will also help the athletes to meet the qualifying mark for the forthcoming Asian and World Athletics Championship.

On site and off site rivalry between Seema Antil and Krishna Poonia will make women's discus throw event much to watch out for.

Krishna won the bronze in the Doha Asian Games with a personal best of 61.53 meters while Seema, a national record holder, was able to cross 60m barrier only once last year when she won silver medal in Melbourne Commonwealth Games. Harwant Kaur, who recovered from a back injury, will also make the contest interesting.

In the men's 400m, national record holder K. M. Binu has shown drastic improvement during the training session in last few days and is expected to give Bhupinder Singh a run for money.

Asian champion Manjit Kaur who failed to dip below 52 seconds in 2006, is now ready to blaze the tracks with excellent timings. She too has reported impressive timings during training sessions in South Africa and will face some tough challenge from Chitra Soman.
