Woolmer's legacy to live on, courtesy well-wishers

New Delhi, April 3 - The legacy of Bob Woolmer, the Pakistan cricket team's coach who was found dead in mysterious circumstances last month, will be preserved, courtesy a trust his well- wishers have set up to fund his cherished projects.
One of the projects that the Bob Woolmer Trust Fund - aims to fund is the creation of the Bob Woolmer Cricket Academy - outside Nelspruit in the Lowveld of South Africa, where the former England player had settled along with his family.
The academy will be run as a non-profit organisation and will mainly focus on encouraging young players of underprivileged communities of South Africa both in sports as well as in academics.
The trust also aims to publish the book Woolmer was working on - 'Discovering Cricket: The Art and Science of the Game'. Along with co-author sports scientist Tim Noakes, Woolmer spent five years over the book that is regarded to become the definitive manual on playing and coaching cricket.
Besides his immediate family members, wife Gill and sons Dale and Russell, the other trustees of the fund are Noakes and former South African Test players Jonty Rhodes and Barry Richards.
The trust, on its website -, also aims to provide financial support to Woolmer's immediate family and has urged other well-wishers to donate.
Woolmer, 58, was found unconscious in his room at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel March 18, less than 24 hours after his team lost all hope of advancing in the World Cup after a shock defeat to Ireland. He was later pronounced dead at 12.14 p.m., at the nearby University Hospital of the West Indies.
