By Xinhua,
[RxPG] Colombo, April 23 - The Norwegian Ambassador in Sri Lanka has cancelled his scheduled visit to the Tamil Tiger territory in the north, government officials said Monday.
Hans Brattskar was to visit the political leadership of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam - in the rebel held Kilinochchi district Monday.
'He was told not to go to Kilinochchi due to security reasons,' a government official said on conditions of anonymity. The Norwegian diplomatic sources also confirmed that the visit has been cancelled.
Brattskar's visit was planned after he had met the government chief negotiator and Minister of Health Nimal Siripal De Silva Friday. He was expected to explore the possibility of resuming the stalled peace talks between rebels and the government.
The LTTE and the government troops have been engaged in military confrontations since late July last year and nearly 4000 people have been killed in the escalation of the conflict since the end of 2005.
Both sides accuse each other of perpetrating violence and have shown reluctance to withdraw from the Norwegian backed 4-year-old truce agreement.
