Chhattisgarh said Thursday that 5,500 chicken samples collected from poultry farms across the state have tested negative for bird flu.

"Chhattisgasrh has not a single bird flu case as the chicken samples sent last month tested negative at the High Security Animal Disease Lab at Bhopal," said Amir Ali, director, animal husbandry department.

An official statement Thursday said the state government had been holding intensive training camps for medical officers on the disease and its prevention.

The state government has set up a bird flu control room after recent disease outbreaks in Maharashtra.

The government has launched a bird flu awareness campaign in impoverished districts and held training camps this week for veterinary workers in many district, including Bilaspur, Janjgir, Korba, Koriya, Raigarh, Bastar and Dantewada, it said.
