National Institute to be set up for Empowerment of Disabled People in India

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs(CCEA) in its meeting last evening decided to the setting up a �National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities� at Chennai at an estimated cost of Rs.61.90 crore which includes a notional land cost of Rs.39.20 crore.
The objective of the new Institute will be:
(a) To undertake development of human resources for management, training, rehabilitation, education, employment and social development of persons with multiple disabilities; and
(b) To promote and conduct research in areas relating to multiple disabilities and to develop trans-disciplinary models and strategies for social rehabilitation to meet the needs of diverse groups of people with multiple disabilities.
