A 27-year-old Indonesian woman, who died in a Jakarta hospital early this week, has been confirmed positive for bird flu, a health official said Saturday.
Results of tests on Yulia, 27, carried out in US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, had proved positive for bird flu, said Hariadi Wibosono, health ministry director for the control of animal-borne diseases.
"I have received the confirmation from Atlanta this afternoon. With this confirmation, the death toll is now at 20," Wibosono told DPA, adding that another eight people have been confirmed as having contracted the H5N1 strain of the virus but have survived.

Yulia lived in a suburb of Depok, south of Jakarta, and had contact with chickens that were infected with the deadly H5N1 strain of the avian-influenza virus.
