[RxPG] Los Angeles, Jan 31 - Iconic 1980s rock band The Police are to reunite to open the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Feb 11.

The announcement by the Recording Academy Tuesday follows months of speculation that the band would reunite for a tour later this year to mark the 30th anniversary of the release of their signature hit 'Roxanne'.

The three-man band, comprising Sting, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers, have remained on good terms despite an acrimonious split in 1984 and last played together in public in 2003 to commemorate their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The band is a five-time Grammy winner and its other hits include 'Message in a Bottle' and 'Every Breath You Take'.

'The Police join a stellar list of past Grammy Awards opening acts, which includes reunions and once-in-a-lifetime performances,' said a statement from the academy.

Other presenters at the Grammy Awards include Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Christina Aguilera, Melissa Etheridge and Stevie Wonder.
