[RxPG] Thiruvananthapuram, May 4 - First Serve Toonz, a joint venture between Toonz Animation India and London-based First Serve International, Friday announced a deal with the BBC for a new animation series, based on the iconic character, Wolverine.

The deal sees the BBC secure television rights in Britain for the first series of 26 half-an-hour episodes.

Jesse Cleverly, head of CBBC - Co-Productions and Acquisitions, said the Wolverine scripts were 'amongst the best we have ever read and the show promises to be a highly involving experience for the audience'.

Commenting on the deal, P. Jayakumar, CEO Toonz Animation India, and Edward Borgerding, managing director of First Serve International, said they were thrilled to have entered into an agreement with the BBC.

'They are recognised worldwide for their commitment to quality programming. The BBC will be an incredible platform for Wolverine which is one of the most popular and iconic characters,' said the duo.

The show will be represented internationally by Liberation Entertainment and in the United States by Marvel.

Toonz has now become a major provider of animation to the top US and European producers and is South Asia's most admired animation studio and part of the international business conglomerate, Comcraft Group.

Founded in 1999, Toonz's client list includes the biggest names in media and entertainment - Marvel, Hallmark, Paramount, Disney, BBC and Cartoon Network.

The sprawling 25,000 sq ft state-of-the-art studio is based in the Technopark city.

Over 500 artists work in this facility staffed with top creative professionals from across the world, including the Philippines, Singapore, Canada, USA and India.
