[RxPG] Ahmedabad, March 31 - The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad - Saturday announced a nearly 12 percent fee hike for its prestigious two-year post-graduate programme.

'The IIMA has decided to hike its fees for PGP - by 12 percent,' Vijaypat Sighania, chairman of the IIMA board of directors, told reporters.

'The IIMA board of directors has decided to increase the fees for the PGP courses from Rs.177,000 per annum to Rs.200,000,' he said.

The fee for the one-year post-graduate programme for executives - is hiked from Rs.1 million to Rs.1.2 million.

IIMA director Bakul Dholakia said: 'This fee hike, however, would not affect the students from the lower income group who come to study at the IIMA from across the country.'

He said the institute would also raise the amount of scholarships for the needy students.

The IIMA, one of the most prestigious business schools in the world, incurs expenses to the tune of Rs.400,000 a year on each post-graduate student. Apart from fees, a part of the expenses is recovered from companies that approach the institute for the annual campus recruitment.
