[RxPG] New Delhi, April 24 - India has contacted its mission in Dubai after reports here said 36 Indians had been deported to the country for travelling on fake visas.
The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs - has contacted the Indian mission in Dubai to find out facts about the incident and has asked its field officers in Chandigarh to check out details of the travel agent who allegedly gave these fake visas.
The external affairs ministry said it was checking the facts.
The 36 Indians reportedly caught Monday night were all booked by the same travel agent in Chandigarh, said sources.
'We have asked our Protectorate of Emigrants office in Chandigarh to start an inquiry through the police,' an MOIA spokesman told IANS Tuesday.

Asked what kind of action the MOIA would take if the agent was found guilty, the spokesman said: 'We can take two types of action. If it is a non-registered agent, we start criminal proceedings against him.
'If it is a registered recruiting agent, we can first serve a showcause notice to him, then suspend his licence and eventually cancel it. We can also freeze his bank guarantee.'
