[RxPG] Thiruvananthapuram, May 11 - A statue of legendary Malayalam film hero Prem Nazir, who broke acting records with his roles in over 700 films, is likely to come up here in a year's time.

Along with the bronze statue of Nazir, who passed away in 1989, the Trivandrum Film Fraternity is also planning a theme museum based on some immortal characters essayed by the late actor.

Filmmaker Lenin Rajendran and superstar Suresh Gopi told reporters Thursday that sculptor Jeevan Thomas, who had sculpted the statues of S.K. Pottekad and Herman Gundert, will make Nazir's statue.

'Work on the statue will begin here May 14 and is expected to be completed within a year. Nazir was one of the actors who had dedicated his life to developing Malayalam cinema as an industry,' said Gopi.

Nazir, a Padma Sree awardee, and actress Sheela hold the unique distinction of acting as a hero-heroine pair in more than a 100 Malayalam films - for which they entered the Guinness Book of Records.

'The suggestion to install the statue came up before the fraternity a fortnight ago and it was finalised without much discussion. The exact location where it would be installed would be announced in due course after discussions with the Kerala government,' said Gopi.

A panel comprising producer G. Suresh Kumar, former Chalachitra Academy chairman T.K. Rajiv Kumar, Rakesh and Kalliyoor Sasi has been formed for executing the project.

The Trivandrum Film Fraternity was formed in 1995 to promote professionalism in the industry and take up welfare activities for those working in different departments of cinema.

It also functions as a forum for holding a dialogue between the industry and the state government.
