[RxPG] Baghdad/Mosul, April 26 - At least 12 people, including nine soldiers, were killed and 28 injured Thursday in separate suicide attacks in Iraq, police sources said.

A suicide bomber drove an explosives-laden car into a checkpoint manned by Iraqi army in the Khalis town of Diyala province, some 75 km northeast of Baghdad, sources said. The attack left nine soldiers killed and 15 wounded.

Diyala recently witnessed wave of violence since insurgents are believed to have fled to the area after the US and Iraqi troops launched a major security crackdown in Baghdad on February 14.

Two car bombs and a suicide bomber wearing explosive belt struck the office of the Democratic Party of Kurdistan - in the town of Zummar near Mosul, killing three guards and wounding 13, the sources said.

The guards were Peshmerga fighters, the Kurdish militia who fought the former regime of Saddam Hussein.

On Monday, a suicide bomber hit the PDK office in the village of Tal Asquf in north Mosul killing 10 people and wounding 20.

Mosul, the capital city of the predominantly Sunni province of Nineveh, is some 400 km north of Baghdad.
