[RxPG] Kuwait City, April 17 - New Delhi has lost the bid to host the 2014 Asian Games to Incheon, the third largest city of South Korea.

The winner was announced after hectic canvassing before the 45-member Olympic Council of Asia - at the Marriott Hotel by the delegations from India and South Korea that had arrived here over the weekend.

The host city for the Asian Games was eventually decided by the meeting of the General Assembly of the OCA.

New Delhi had previously hosted the games in 1951 and 1982. Incheon, on the other hand, will be the third South Korean city to host the quadrennial Asian Games, following Busan in 2002 and Seoul in 1986.

Indian Olympic Association - president Suresh Kalmadi, Indian Ambassador to Kuwait M. Ganapathi and Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury were among those who lobbied for India.

Others who pitched for New Delhi included long-jumper Anju Bobby George, shooter Rajyawardhan Singh Rathore, hockey Olympian Aslam Sher Khan, Haryana Tourism Minister Kiran Chowdhary.

Earlier, Raja Randhir Singh was re-elected unanimously as the secretary general of the Olympic Council of Asia by the General Assembly for the 5th straight term. He is also the secretary-general of the Olympic Council of India and the Indian Olympic Committee.
