[RxPG] Raipur, Nov 24 - Protesting over the death of three contract workers on Thursday in a Chhattisgarh town, hundreds of people Friday set on fire vehicles and office chambers.
The three workers were killed and dozens injured in Korba, 210 km northeast of here, when a major portion of an under construction 500 megawatt thermal power plant of Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board - collapsed.
'CSEB is carrying out expansion work of its two existing units at Korba East,' Korba police chief Himanshu Gupta told IANS.
'On Friday, the workers assembled in full strength and took out a rally to protest the killings blaming the contractors and CSEB,' Gupta said.
'Over a thousand workers indulged in arson and set four jeeps and CSEB offices and officials' chambers on fire in the violent protest lasted for more than four hours.'
The construction work of CESB thermal power project has come to a total halt and additional forces have been deployed at the site to maintain law and order.
