[RxPG] Mumbai, Nov 21 (IANS) In major blow to mobster Dawood Ibrahim, billed as India's most wanted criminal, 10 suspected members of his gang, some of them accused in the 1993 terror bombings, were Tuesday deported from Dubai and brought here.
It was the first time that so many members of the Dawood gang were arrested at a time, Mumbai Police Commissioner A.N. Roy said.
Those arrested by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch after they were deported from Dubai are Sheikh Mohammed Shabbir, Shakeel Sheikh Mohammed, Shahid Qureshi, Jameel Jabbar alias Haji, Mustafa Mehmood, Anjum Fazlani, Abdul Dholakia, Sayyed Mehendi, Arif Sheikh alias Arif Bhai Jaan and Salim Qureshi alias Salim Frut, he said.
Some of them are accused in the 1993 Mumbai terror attack that killed 257 people, police sources said.
Most of them were involved in serious crimes including extortions and had been in the Dubai police's custody for some time after the UAE police bust a portion of the Dawood syndicate, Roy told reporters.
'It was an operation involving several agencies both Indian and those of the UAE. They were arrested by the Dubai police and were deported this morning. We are still referring to their dossiers.
'The Dubai police had rounded all of them, up after it cracked down on the Dawood syndicate there a fortnight ago. We too had been in touch with our central intelligence agencies and the deportation became possible after efforts through diplomatic channels,' the Mumbai Police chief said.

On Nov 18, another Dawood aide, Abdul Rashid Hussaini Putter, was deported from Dubai for his alleged involvement in a fake currency racket in India, the official said. He is in police custody till Dec 2.
