[RxPG] Hyderabad, April 16 - A couple was arrested in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district when they were digging the grave of their son to 'resurrect' him, watched by hundreds of villagers.

The couple, Guruvaiah and his wife Anantamma, had started digging the grave of their son in Gonerajpalli village in the coastal district Sunday night when police intervened and arrested them. They claimed to have supernatural powers to resurrect the dead.

Hundreds of villagers had gathered to watch the couple's 'miracle'. Their teenaged son had died of ill health 40 days ago. According to locals, the duo had announced that they would resurrect their son on the 41st day.

As the word spread, men, women and children from neighbouring villages thronged the graveyard. The couple started a special 'puja' and was about to take out the body when policemen, alerted by a television channel, arrived on the scene.

However, the villagers tried to stop the police.

Additional policemen were rushed to the village. They managed to stop the digging and arrested the couple.

The couple told police that they only wanted to construct a structure over the grave. Circle Inspector Hari Rajender Babu said a case would be filed against the couple, which claims to have treated many in the village with their magical powers.
