[RxPG] Madrid, Nov 20 (DPA) A 4-1 win against Mallorca kept Barcelona on top of the points table of the Spanish Liga football tournament.
The latest win Sunday gives the European champions 26 points from 11 games, one more than Sevilla, who thrashed Valencia 3-0 Saturday.
Star of the show for Barca was striker Eidur Gidjohnsen, standing in for injury victims Samuel Eto'o and Javier Saviola.
Gudjohnsen broke the deadlock three minutes before the interval, taking a clever pass from Deco and rounding the keeper to score.
The Icelandic hit man made it 2-0 in the 57th minute, this time converting a through ball from Andres Iniesta.
Victor Casajesus took advantage of a rare mistake by Rafa Marquez to pull back a goal for Mallorca. Then, local defender Fernando Varela was sent off and Barca launched a late assault.
Ronaldinho set up Iniesta for the third goal, then played through substitute Santi Ezquerro to complete the rout.
In the third place - two points behind Sevilla and three behind Barca - are Real Madrid, who Saturday beat Racing Santander 3-1.
In-form Zaragoza stay fourth, one point below Real, with an emphatic 3-0 thrashing of troubled Gimnastic Tarragona.
Zaragoza's goals were blasted home by Pablo Aimar, Oscar Gonzalez and Gerard Pique.
Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, moved up to fifth with a 3-0 romp at lowly Levante. Maniche led the rout with two goals, and Fernando Torres scored another from the penalty spot.
In sixth place now are the real surprise package of the season, newly-promoted Recreativo Huelva, who beat dismal Osasuna 2-0. The latest defeat leaves Osasuna - who finished fourth last season - third from bottom with just eight points.
Also on eight are Athletic Bilbao, who lost 3-2 at Espanyol. Gimnastic Tarragona remain second from bottom with five. Real Sociedad - held 0-0 at home by Betis - stay bottom with just four points.
In Sunday's other games, Villarreal moved out of trouble by beating Getafe 1-0, while Celta Vigo won the Galician derby at Deportivo Coruna thanks to a solitary late goal from Brazilian forward Nene.
