[RxPG] Shimla, Dec 29 - Caught on camera for allegedly taking bribes from Haj pilgrims the Himachal Pradesh Haj Committee chairman and another member have been removed from their posts by the state government here late Thursday.
This was announced by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in the state assembly during the winter session, which is being held in Dharamsala.
'Police are investigating the case,' Singh said.
Even though the state Haj committee chairman Maulana Mumtaz Ahmed Kazmi and member Nizakat Ali have been suspended they are denying the bribery charges even though being caught on camera in an investigative story shown on CNN-IBN.
'My father Mumtaz Ahmed Kazmi is innocent and has been falsely charged with accepting a bribe by a television news channel. We are open to a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry,' said Afzal, son of the accused.
'We are also considering slapping a defamation case against the concerned news channel for bringing my father's name into disrepute,' he said.
