[RxPG] Bangalore, Nov 24 - The Indian Army is prepared to enhance military ties with China by raising the current level of activities, including joint exercises, Army Chief J.J. Singh said here Friday.
'In the light of the agreement signed on defence cooperation between the two countries during the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao this week, we are open to joint exercises with our Chinese counterparts and to post observers at each others' training centres to learn from each other,' Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.
Welcoming the latest initiatives by both the countries to resolve their outstanding differences, including a solution to their border dispute, Singh pointed out that peace and tranquillity was prevailing along the Line of Actual Control -.
'The agreement to enhance defence ties will facilitate greater military cooperation and exchange of visits at higher and middle levels, besides sharing information on the challenges of the future,' Singh said after presenting colours to the Pioneers Corps.
Apart from participating in the national day celebrations of each other country, both the armies are currently engaged in holding joint adventure activities in the border areas, he said.
'Contentious issues are discussed across the table. There is no cause for friction. Right now, we are at the stage of getting to know each other. As per the agreements we have signed, we will explore the possibility of joint training as well. We will be happy to do joint exercises with the Chinese troops and will explore that possibility too,' Singh maintained.
