[RxPG] Jammu, March 29- A four-storied auditorium, symbolising the pluralistic culture of Jammu and Kashmir, has been opened at the Jammu University here.
The auditorium, complete with state-of-the-art infrastructure, depicts the traditional Kashmiri, Dogri and Ladakhi cultures. The facility, constructed at a cost of Rs.200 million, was inaugurated by Governor S.K. Singh Wednesday evening.
A ballet was presented on the occasion to an audience comprising members from the academia and cultural and literary circles of the state.
Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said the auditorium showcased everything good the state had.
'It is a dream turned into reality,' said National Conference president Omar Abdullah who was part of the audience.
The auditorium has been named after General Zorawar Singh, legendary warrior and general of the Dogra army.
The auditorium speaks of Kashmiriyat - the pluralistic society and culture of Jammu and Kashmir. From the model of the Kirmachi temples of Udhampur to the Burzahama Pit in Kashmir, and from Neolithic Age paintings to ancient coins, the auditorium takes the onlooker through the history of the state's three regions - Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
The fully air-conditioned facility has six main segments: The art gallery, museum, cafeteria, main hall, a television production centre and an FM station.
The art gallery, named after Buddhist saint of Ladakh Rinchon B'zang Po, houses classical pieces of art from that region.
The Nund Reshi Museum, christened after Sufi saint Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani, highlights intercultural traditions of the state.
