[RxPG] Jammu, Nov 23 - Pakistan believes the ongoing peace process in Kashmir is futile and has not helped in making any headway towards resolving the Kashmir issue, leaving the right to self-determination as the only option, separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani said Thursday.
Pakistani Foreign Secretary Riaz Mohhamd had conveyed to him during their recent meeting in Delhi that 'we have not gained anything out of the peace process and your - stand is right', Geelani, the chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat -, a breakaway faction of the All party Hurriyat Conference, told reporters here.
The hardliner separatist leader opposes the India-Pakistan peace process and favours 'the right to self-determination as only and long-lasting solution to the Kashmir problem'.
Geelani said he was not against the dialogue, 'but it has to be result-oriented. We have had 130 dialogue processes till now which have not shown any results'.
He asserted that the Kashmir solution should be found in the 'historical background', granting the right to self-determination to people of the whole of Jammu and Kashmir - the part administered by India as well as the one administered by Pakistan.
He added that the Indian Army should be asked to leave Jammu and Kashmir, the Public Safety Act - and Armed Forces Special Powers Act must be repelled, and Kashmir be recognised as disputed area to ensure a solution to the Kashmir issue.
Geelani rejected outright the talk of 'out-of-box or other new ways to finding a solution', when reminded that both India and Pakistan were against the right to self-determination.
While Geelani was addressing the press conference, about 25 activists of the Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party - tried to disrupt the proceedings by barging into the hall and raising slogans. They were, however, chased away by police.
