[RxPG] Kolkata, April 11 - A city court Wednesday denied bail to a Mexican tourist who was arrested here last month for threatening his co-passengers on board, en-route to Delhi from Bangkok.

Febles Ortiz Eduardo Antonio, 47, who was arrested from the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International - airport March 21, was again denied bail after he was produced in the sub-divisional court at Barrackpore.

He has been given further judicial custody till April 19.

Antonio was arrested from the airport on the basis of a complaint lodged by the pilot of Indian Airlines flight - after the plane made an emergency landing.

'Antonio was produced before the sub-divisional court at Barrackpore today but he was again denied bail. The judge has ordered that the 47-year-old be produced in court April 19,' said police superintendent of North 24-Parganas Praveen Kumar.

Antonio, who was in an inebriated condition, had allegedly threatened a co-passenger that he would blow the aircraft with bombs kept under his seat.

Later air marshals overpowered him and handed him over to the police.

In its last hearing March 28, the sub-divisional court had denied him bail and a case was registered against the accused.

'What Antonio had done is a major offence. There is a statutory period of 90 days to get bail in this type of offence. Antonio's false bomb alarm caused Rs.2.3 million loss to Indian Airlines and also harassed several Indian and foreign passengers on board,' Indrajit Mukherjee of NSCBI police station told IANS.

Mukherjee said that the Mexican embassy is also trying to plea for Antonio's bail before the court.

'Antonio had introduced himself to the police as a reporter. But his identity is still not clear to us,' Mukherjee said.
