[RxPG] Hyderabad, March 22 - A woman was found dead in mysterious circumstances on the premises of a government hospital here Thursday as employees claimed she committed suicide, but her relatives alleged she was murdered by hospital staff.
Tension prevailed at the Government Maternity Hospital at Nayapul on the banks of the Musi river when relatives of the deceased went on a rampage, damaged hospital furniture and attacked police. They demanded the arrest of the guilty.
Satamma, a native of Nagarkunta village in neighboring Ranga Reddy district, was staying with her daughter Padma, who had given birth to a baby boy three days ago. The child had been kept in the intensive care unit and was handed over to Padma Wednesday evening.
Padma's relatives alleged that Satamma, aged around 50, overheard Wednesday night two employees planning to swap her grandson with a female baby. She threatened to expose them and reportedly alerted her daughter. The next morning she was found hanging from a tree.
Her relatives alleged that the hospital employees killed her as she had threatened to inform higher authorities. They said the body was tied to a tree to give an impression that she committed suicide.
Police registered a case and was investigating.
Three years ago, at this hospital a male baby was swapped with a female baby hours after their birth with the connivance of some hospital employees. The case was solved with the help of DNA tests of parents of both babies.
