[RxPG] London, Nov 25 - An unemployed Pakistani man in Britain who built a seven-bedroom mansion in Pakistan after making millions of pounds fraudulently in this country has been jailed.

Nawaz Sharif, formerly a taxi driver from Slough in Berkshire who amassed a two-million-pound-fortune through benefit fraud, credit card fraud and a fake passport scam, was sent to prison Friday for five years.

'This is a typical ruse used by people wishing to launder money quickly,' said a police officer.

The judge ordered Sharif to repay Slough Borough council 43,823.63 pounds and settle their costs of 30,000 pounds, according to the Daily Mail newspaper.

Sharif, arrested in December last year, came to Britain 10 years ago.

During investigations it emerged that Sharif used to falsely claim housing and tax benefits from the local Slough Borough council and transferred the money to Pakistan.

He was found to have at least 13 bank accounts. Police also recovered dozens of forged credit cards, passports and envelopes stuffed with hundreds of thousands of pounds in cash.

Investigators believe Sharif was charging illegal immigrants between 2,000-5,000 pounds to mark their passports with counterfeit stamp.

Investigators found architect's plans for a 70,000 pound-seven-bedroom mansion built in Islamabad. The house is in one of the most select suburbs of the city and is now said to be worth 250,000 pounds.

Police now believe that the Pakistani had managed to ship a top-of-the-line Mercedes and a BMW car to Pakistan.

Investigators are planning to travel to Pakistan to view the property Sharif is believed to have bought using British housing tax benefits.
