[RxPG] Bangalore, Nov 24 - Army Chief General J.J. Singh said Friday the ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the northeast region was well under control and efforts were on to restore normalcy in both the troubled areas.
'During my recent visit to Kashmir and the northeast, I found the situation well under control in both the troubled areas. We are doing our best to assist the civil administration in reaching out to the people so that normalcy could be restored in the region,' the Chief of Army Staff told reporters on the sidelines of an army function here.
Though the role of the army and security forces was to ensure that the level of violence was brought down, Singh said he would be happy if the problem was solved by dialogue than through confrontation.
Earlier, the army chief presented colours to the Pioneer Corps and took the salute at a ceremonial parade at the Armed Signal Corps ground.
Singh also released a first day cover of the regiment.
The parade was commanded by Col. S.B. Sajjan, commandant, Pioneer Corps training centre. The colours were received by Lt. Col. R.K. Pathak, officer-in-command, 1568 Pioneer Corps.
Colours are the visible memorials to great deeds of a regiment and symbolise its spirit. The Pioneer Corps was formed way back in 1758 in the then Madras Residency and got entwined with the independence struggle. Presently, the Corps has 16 companies distributed to various commands.
