Yorkshire firm wins Indian contract on road safety

[RxPG] London, Nov 23 (IANS) An East Yorkshire-based training company has become the latest to hit the headlines for winning a contract to supply driver training software to India, another indicator of growing business ties between India and Britain.
Technica Training, of the Driffield Business Centre, has won a contract to supply its driver training materials to the Hyderabad-based firm Zen Technologies. As part of the contract, Zen will take Technica's driver training software and translate it into local languages in India.
Technica's Managing Director Paul Truelove said Zen was hoping to cut the death toll on India's roads. He said: 'We are very, very pleased. This contract is going to put our turnover to well over half a million pounds and that is just the initial agreement.
'In Britain, about 10 people a day die on our roads, but in India, between 350 and 500 people die every day on the roads. They lose a small village every week. Working with an Indian company that is grabbing the bull by the horns and working on road safety is a proud moment for us. People are dying in tin boxes, but there's no need. People can be trained to have a different mindset.'
Technica is active in road safety work in Britain and sits on the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety. It is also a member of the Occupational Road Safety Alliance, which promotes road safety at work.
Truelove told the local media in Hull that he hoped the deal would mark the start of a new era for the company.
He said: 'This is the start of quite a big thing for us. It's an exciting time. Many companies, when they look at health and safety, look carefully at issues such as trips and falls and VDU use. But usually there's no training when it comes to company vehicles.'
