Veteran mountaineer falls to his death on Everest

[RxPG] Kathmandu, April 29 - A high-altitude guide and former Mt. Everest summiteer died on the mountain while preparing logistics, a mountaineering agency said Sunday.
Dawa Sherpa, 40, slipped and fell into a crevasse on Thursday while preparing logistics between the second and third camps on the world's tallest mountain, his expedition agent Thamsherku Trekking said here.
His body was expected to be brought to the Nepalese capital later in the week for the last rites.
Camp 2 and Camp 3 lie at an altitude of between 6,400 metres and 7,500 metres.
According to climbers, camp 3 is on the southern face of Mt. Lhoste adjoining Everest and the climbers are forced to negotiate a sheer wall of ice that demands skill, strength and stamina.
Dawa, who had reached the summit of 8,848-metre peak three times, was part of Everest International Expedition.

The death of Dawa is the first on the mountain for the current climbing season as mountaineers prepare their final assault on the peak in mid May.
