[RxPG] Karachi, May 15 - Pakistan's principal port city Karachi was limping back to normal Tuesday after three days of violence that killed 48 people, injured over 150 and witnessed huge loss of public property.

Thin traffic started plying on city roads late Monday evening and shops were opened in several areas.

Some petrol pumps were also open and people made large queues there to get fuel, which was unavailable for three consecutive days due to the violence.

Police and Rangers continued patrolling at the sensitive areas. Over 3,000 Rangers and paramilitary force personnel were inducted Monday to help police control the situation.

The violence, which was considered the worst in the last two decades, erupted Saturday as it involved supporters and opponents of suspended chief justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry who was to address the Sindh High Court Bar Association here.

Chaudhry was prevented from visiting the city and was flown back to Islamabad.

While the government has blamed Chaudhry and the opposition parties, the latter have alleged that the pro-government Muttahida Quami Movement - precipitated violence by staging a counter-rally and by attacking workers of opposition parties at the government's behest.
