India tests supersonic BrahMos missile

[RxPG] Balasore - Feb 4 - India Sunday successfully test fired the land version of the supersonic anti-ship cruise missile BrahMos, jointly developed by India and Russia, from a base in Orissa, a military official said.
The missile was fired at 12.15 p.m. from the Integrated Test Range - at Chandipur in the coastal Balasore district, ITR director A. Checker told IANS. He refused to provide details.
The missile has a range of nearly 300 km and carries a conventional warhead of 300 kg. It can achieve speeds of up to 2.8 Mach or nearly three times the speed of sound.
The supersonic missile, which takes its name from the Brahmaputra and Moskva rivers, was test fired from launch pad number 3, official sources said. BrahMos can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land.

Chandipur is located 16 km from Balasore town and some 220 km from the state capital Bhubaneswar.
