[RxPG] New Delhi, March 31 - Five people in the capital were arrested in two separate incidents for allegedly running betting rackets involving cricket matches, police said Saturday.

In the first incident, sleuths of Delhi Police's crime branch Friday arrested three people - Ramesh, Anil and Umesh - from Dwarka in southwest Delhi for betting on the World Cup match between England and Ireland.

Ramesh and Anil, who hailed from Gurgaon in Haryana, had come to Umesh's residence in Dwarka during the match, police said.

'Acting on a tip-off, a police constable was sent in plain clothes to strike a deal with Ramesh and Anil. He fixed the deal and made signal to the police team, who then apprehended all the three accused,' Deputy Commissioner of Police Neeraj Thakur said.

Police have recovered eight mobile phones, one laptop, one voice recorder and eight ledger books from their possession.

In the second incident, two more people, Harinder Singh and Narender Kumar, were arrested Friday from Hari Nagar in west Delhi for betting on the same England-Ireland match.

One television set, three mobile phones and two ledger books were seized from their possession, police said.
