[RxPG] Colombo, March 10 - Eight bodies, including those of four Army personnel, were found Saturday in Sri Lanka's Wilpattu Wild Life Sanctuary, said the military.

Officials from the Media Center for National Security said the bodies have been identified as that of the Anuradhapura Area Commander Jayantha Suraweera, three of his colleagues, the Officer in Charge of the sanctuary Vasantha Pushpananda and three employees of the sanctuary, some 200 km north of the capital Colombo.

This group organised by the Ministry of Environment went to the sanctuary Friday to inquire into the complaints of the villagers in the area regarding the wild elephants that were threatening their lives and property in their search for water and to inquire into the security situation in the area.

The authorities suspected the hand of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam rebels in the disappearance of the party.

Last year on May 28, a group of local tourists who had gone to the park were found killed inside the park and the jeep in which they were travelling was blown into pieces.
