Sri Lankan air force bombs rebel positions in north

The defence sources said that similar air raids were conducted in the LTTE held Mullaitivu district Thursday. The damages caused by the air raids were not known.

[RxPG] Colombo, Feb 16 - Sri Lankan air force raided Tamil Tiger positions in the northern Jaffna peninsula Friday.
Air force jets carried out air raids around 9.50 a.m local time - on Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam - mortar gun positions at Soranpattu, north of Pallai in the northern Jaffna peninsula, defence officials said.
The attacks came after the rebels fired at Jaffna's Muhamalai forward defence lines Wednesday, which killed at least three soldiers and caused severe injuries to a few officers. It was believed that the rebels had fired long distance attack by using their gun positions near Pallai.
The defence sources said that similar air raids were conducted in the LTTE held Mullaitivu district Thursday. The damages caused by the air raids were not known.
The clashes are the continuation of violence that has killed nearly 4,000 people since December 2005. Escalation of the conflict has pushed the Norwegian facilitated process to the back seat despite appeals on both sides by the international community to resume the process of direct negotiations.
