Accord for Dhaka-Yangon road link signed

Bangladesh has leased out blocks for exploration to foreign parties, while Indian exploration is a combination of its own effort and leases given out to foreign explorers.

[RxPG] Dhaka, April 29 - Bangladesh and Myanmar have inked an accord to build a direct road link that will connect the former with China and Thailand.
Under the pact signed Saturday, the Bangladesh government will fund the construction of a 25-km road from Gundhum in Cox's Bazar to Baulibazar in Myanmar, United News of Bangladesh - news agency said.
It was signed during Foreign Affairs Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury's Myanmar visit.
He met Acting Prime Minister of Myanmar Lt Gen Thein Sein. The two discussed the bilateral issues including road link, repatriation of Rohingya refugees, border trade, contract farming, demarcation of maritime boundary, simplification of visa regime and establishment of joint commission, The Daily Star said.
A large number of Rohingya Muslim tribals who live in the Arakan ranges have fled Myanmar in the past and have become refugees in Bangladesh.

Dhaka and Yangon took an initiative in 2003 to establish direct communication between the two countries by a road and a memorandum of understanding - was signed to this end during a visit of the Myanmar prime minister to Dhaka in 2004.
