[RxPG] Chittagong, May 15 - Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was named the Man of the Series in the one-day international series against Bangladesh here Tuesday, said he had made up for failing on his debut here over two years ago.
'I wanted to do well here. I made my debut here 26 months ago and I didn't have a good start,' Dhoni told reporters after the third and final One-day International was abandoned, leaving India 2-0 winners.
'I got run out off the very first ball I faced, so obviously wanted to do something in this series to really prove myself. I am really happy that I was able to fulfil my goal,' he said, recalling the ODI Dec 23, 2004 when Tapash Baisya ran him out.
In this series, Dhoni ended up with top aggregate on either side. He tallied 127 runs at 127.00 with an unbeaten match winning 91 in the first match in Dhaka as his highest.
'I got the Man of the Series and the Man of the Match - awards after a long time. The last time I got it was against Sri Lanka and it has been more than a year now, so I am very happy,' the hard-hitting batsman told reporters.
Dhoni adapted well to the situation to play that 91-run knock in Dhaka Thursday, and was associated with Dinesh Karthik - in a 107-run run-a-ball match-winning partnership for the sixth wicket.
'You are playing for the team so you have to adjust according to the situation of the game. If the situation demands that you play slowly with caution then you got to do that,' he said.
'If I am successful, or was successful, in doing this then it becomes quite easy. If you do it once, then you know what the conditions are, what the situation is and ultimately if the team wins, it does not matter whether you play fast or slow.'
Comparing the conditions and situations, he pointed out that it was tough to bat lower down the order.
'It's really hard if you are facing 30-40 balls and you don't really expect to score 60 or 70-odd runs. So, I was really happy with whatever opportunities I was getting, whether I was scoring 30-40 runs...,' he said.
'I was really happy with it because I was playing for the team. But this time I got an opportunity and I am really glad I proved myself.'
India's two-match Test series starts here Friday.
