[RxPG] Dhaka, March 23 - Security forces Friday raided the political office of business tycoon Tarique Rahman, son of former prime minister Khaleda Zia, after the interim government asked the intelligence agencies to investigate reported links between him and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

The security forces, accompanied by plain-clothes, seized computers and other papers from the office located in Dhaka's posh Banani residential area. There was nobody in the building except a private guard, witnesses said.

The alleged links were reported by a Kolkata newspaper in India last Wednesday and the report was reproduced by Bangladeshi dailies.

The Indian newspaper Anandabazar, quoting intelligence sources, claimed Rahman visited Dubai a year ago to meet Ibrahim and signed several deals.

Rahman, 42, was appointed by his mother to an influential position in her Bangladesh Nationalist Party with the ultimate goal of making her elder son her political successor.

Rahman was arrested two weeks ago on charges of smuggling money out of the country.

He faces a trial for extortion in a criminal case filed by a real-estate developer.

Zia stepped down in October, meeting a constitutional provision to permit a non-party caretaker government to hold the next general election.
