[RxPG] Dhaka, March 6 - Six militant leaders of Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh -, charged with bomb blasts and suicide attacks, will be hanged by March 26 after the Bangladeshi president rejected their clemency appeal.

Iajuddin Ahmed rejected their mercy appeal Monday night following which it was sent back to the interior ministry, Bangladeshi TV channel Bangla Vision Tuesday said.

The ministry will now formally ask the prison authority to execute the death sentences. The JMB leaders set to die include its chief Sheikh Abdur Rahman and his second-in-command Siddiqul Islam Bangla Bhai.

The six were given death sentences by a lower court on charges of planning a suicide attack in 2005 that killed two judges. The Bangladesh Supreme Court upheld the sentence.

The JMB had launched a campaign to establish the Shariat law in Bangladesh, a Muslim-majority country of 140 million people.

The group came into the limelight after a countrywide series of bombings Aug 17, 2005 and later suicide bomb attacks killed 28 people. The JMB targeted courts as they see judiciary as the stumbling block in their campaign to establish Islamic laws in the country.
