[RxPG] Thiruvananthapuram, May 16 - Arun Kumar, son of Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, faces trouble after the Research Committee of Kerala University Wednesday recommended cancellation of his admission into a doctorate programme.
The committee recommended the cancellation and the final decision would be taken by the university vice-chancellor Thursday, a university spokesperson told IANS.
Allegations had surfaced in a section of the media last week that Kumar had reportedly secured admission for his Ph.D. in bio-informatics in violation of the university norms.
His admission had been cleared by the university syndicate Sep 26, 2006. As per the university norms, a candidate securing admission for Ph.D. should have either cleared an entrance test or passed the National Eligibility Test.
An exception is granted only for those having an M.Phil. degree or seven years of teaching experience. Kumar, however, does not pass the muster on either ground.
Kumar is said to have been admitted to the course on the merit of his experience as an official in the Institute of Human Resources Development - here after its director issued a certificate.
