[RxPG] Lucknow, May 11 - Celebrations erupted here Friday as Bahujan Samaj Party - supporters took to the streets following the election win that would make party chief Mayawati chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for the fourth time.

Party workers and supporters began thronging the BSP state headquarters on Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg just behind the Governor's House as the election results poured in.

They shouted slogans hailing Mayawati for taking the party to new heights in India's most populous state where BSP has finished as the single largest outfit in the 403-seat assembly, stunning its political foes.

BSP supporters also raised slogans against Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and his Man Friday Amar Singh.

Sweets were liberally distributed among the cheering supporters.

One of the slogans sought to convey that it was time for the 'elephant', the BSP election symbol, to crush the 'goons' of the Samajwadi Party.

Crowds also collected outside Mayawati's heavily guarded residence in Mall Avenue shouting slogans and bursting firecrackers.

The number of policemen outside her home suddenly swelled as it became clear she was going to become the chief minister. But Mayawati herself avoided the media and did not come out to join in the celebrations.
