[RxPG] Srinagar, March 30 - People's Democratic Party - patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Friday said he was 'satisfied' with the announcement of an expert panel to address the demands raised by his party, including on troops withdrawal, a move which has virtually saved the ruling alliance in Jammu and Kashmir from the brink of a split.
The former chief minister, who has been camping in New Delhi for the last 12 days where he held three rounds of talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, told IANS over phone: 'I am satisfied with the outcome of my meetings with the prime minister.'
Sayeed, who arrivs here Saturday to attend the Political Affairs Committee - meeting of his party, said; 'The central government has agreed to set up an expert panel to be headed by the defence secretary to look into the question of relocation of the army from different places in the state. A review committee is also being set up to assess the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
'In addition, a nodal officer is also being appointed to look into the problem of vacation of government and private properties which are presently under the occupation of the army.'
Asked whether there would be a timeframe for the expert panel and the review committee to submit their recommendations, Sayeed said: 'There would be no written timeframe for them, but I have been assured that things would move fast enough in line with the aspirations of the people and the requirements of the security situation in the state.'
Meanwhile, state Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who arrived in the winter capital Jammu from Delhi, told reporters that politics would not be allowed to play with the sensitive issue of security of the state.
