[RxPG] Bhopal, April 5 - Madhya Pradesh Leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi and other Congress leaders resorted to a sit-in outside Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's residence here Thursday to protest the killing of three people Monday over a religious procession.
Curfew continued in Narsinghgarh town of Rajgarh district where violence occurred Monday afternoon when a procession marking Hanuman Jayanti was stoned while it was passing by a mosque. This led to widespread violence as rioters set ablaze about three dozen shops and damaged several vehicles.
About 40 people from both Hindu and Muslim communities were injured. The police lobbed teargas shells before opening fire in the air to disperse the mob.
Later curfew was clamped following tension in the wake of stone-throwing and subsequent arson. So far around 140 people have been arrested for indulging in arson and violence.
Curfew was relaxed for two hours Thursday to allow people to make necessary purchases, Inspector General of Police Sanjeev Singh said.
'No untoward incident was reported during the curfew relaxation,' he said.
After two bodies were recovered from a pond, the administration confirmed the toll in the violence at three. A compensation of Rs.100,000 each was given to kin of the deceased, officials said.
