[RxPG] Hyderabad, April 27 - A Telangana Rashtra Samiti - legislator, on the run after charges of human trafficking were slapped against him, Friday surrendered here in a court, which remanded him to judicial custody till May 11.
Kasipeta Lingaiah, who had been in hiding for two days, surrendered at the Nampally Criminal Court Friday morning. The court sent him to the Chanchalguda Central Jail here.
Police here had Thursday booked a case of cheating and impersonation against him for obtaining a passport for a woman, claiming she was his wife. A case was also filed against the woman, believed to be from Gujarat.
Lingaiah, who represents Nerella constituency in Karimnagar district, denied his involvement in the racket.
Talking to reporters in the court premises, he alleged that TRS president K. Chandrasekhara Rao has hatched a conspiracy against him because he was one of the nine dissident TRS legislators.
He also said that Dileep, an assistant of suspended TRS MP A. Narendra, had introduced him to Rasheed, a travel agent allegedly involved in human trafficking.
Rasheed's name had come up during investigations into the racket, which surfaced April 18 following the arrest of Bharatiya Janata Party - MP Babubhai Katara in New Delhi before he was to fly out to Canada with a woman and a boy traveling on his family's passports.
Police and officials of the Regional Passport Office here are also probing the involvement of Narendra and some other legislators in the scam.
The TRS Wednesday suspended Narendra for allegedly misusing passports of two party MPs to illegally send people abroad.
After his suspension, Narendra alleged that Rao sent many women to the Middle East, US and other countries.
