By IANS, [RxPG] The world's first face transplant recipient told journalists on Monday that she saw her operation giving other disfigured people a hope for a normal life.
"My operation can help others recover," 38-year-old Isabelle Dinoire said in her first press conference in this city where she is being treated.
French surgeons gave her a new nose, chin and lips in a 15-hour operation in November last year.
Reading from a prepared text, but with difficulty because she appeared to have difficulty moving the lower part of her face, Dinoire said: "I am counting on resuming a normal life"
"I now have a face like everyone else," she added.
Dinoire was badly disfigured in May last year after she was attacked by her pet dog.
The triangular part of facial tissue, muscle and nerves that was grafted on to Dinoire's face came from a brain-dead patient, to whose family Dinoire expressly paid tribute.
